Our Weekend at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2024.

Updated: Nov 26

In celebration of a truly remarkable year, we are excited to reflect on some of the monumental moments that have profoundly shaped our journey. One of the highlights that stands out is our participation in the prestigious Investec Cape Town Art Fair, an event that took place from February 6th to 8th. This renowned fair provided an exceptional platform for us to present the extraordinary works of three incredibly talented artists: Adegboyega Adesina (Nigeria), Buqaqawuli Thamani Nobakada (South Africa), and Casper Kofi (Netherlands/Ghana). Each artist brought their unique perspective and vision to the table, creating pieces that not only captivated the audience but also deeply resonated with the broader themes of the fair. Their diverse and inspiring creations left an indelible mark on the event, affirming the power of art to connect people across cultures and continents. We are immensely proud to have had the opportunity to showcase their work and share this extraordinary moment with them.

Investec Cape Town Art Fair is the largest international contemporary art fair in Africa. With over 100 exhibitors, 23 000 visitors and 6000 VIPs, it offers a platform for collectors, galleries, curators, artists and art journalists from around the globe to create connections at the forefront of contemporary art. With an intimate experience of one of the world’s most unique art capitals, Investec Cape Town Art Fair is the place where the fast-growing African art market meets the international art world.

The 2024 curatorial theme of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair was “Unbound,” a concept that focused on emerging and ‘unbound’ voices within the art world. In a time when the world is facing numerous global challenges, art becomes more than just an aesthetic experience—it transforms into a compelling catalyst for change, expression, and dialogue. The "Unbound" theme underscored the importance of creating spaces where diverse voices could be heard, voices that are often marginalised or overlooked. It was a celebration of freedom, a call to break free from constricting narratives, and a commitment to exploring alternative possibilities through the lens of artistic expression. By embracing the "Unbound" theme, the fair created a space for artists to challenge boundaries, push limits, and offer new perspectives on pressing issues facing the world today. In this way, the event not only showcased the beauty of the artwork but also the power of art to transcend borders, inspire thought, and forge connections in a deeply meaningful way.

As Under the Aegis focuses on the commitment of amplifying diverse voices and celebrating intersectional African identities, the theme for the fair resonated deeply with our own aims. Aligning with the 'Unbound' provided a platform for the artists we displayed whose works explore identity, love, and beauty from their African perspectives. By engaging with the diverse and dynamic energy of the fair, we were able to contribute to the global conversation, pushing boundaries and challenging traditional narratives through the eyes of our artists. The Investec Cape Town Art Fair’s 'Unbound' theme provided a fertile ground for this vision, and we are proud to have been a part of it.

By sparking these critical conversations and offering new perspectives that transcend borders and cultures, this event serves as a reminder of the profound impact art can have on our shared global narrative. We are excited to see the amazing narratives that are brought up in the 2025 edition of the Investec art fair, and so should you!
