Artist Spotlight: Mbulelo Terrance Lokoto

Mbulelo Terrance Lokoto (b. 2000) is currently participating in the Edition/Basel artist residency. The 2025 edition, curated by Megan Adie and Margarit Lehmann, is themed My Shadow Also Leaps / Auch mein Schatten hüpft.

Edition/Basel is an intensive printmaking residency that brings together ten international professional artists for two summer sessions in Basel, Switzerland. The program fosters creative and socio-cultural exchange, uniting participants through their shared passion for the graphic arts.

Over 12 days, artists engage in a range of printmaking techniques, including intaglio, relief, lithography, and letterpress, at the renowned Druckwerk studio. Each year’s residency revolves around a central theme, collaboratively chosen and interpreted individually by each artist. The residency culminates in a public exhibition hosted at one of three local museums or galleries.This year’s exhibition opens today, Friday 25 July at 7PM, at Kasko Basel Gallery.

For 2025, the selected artists have responded to the theme My Shadow Also Leaps through deeply personal explorations of the physical, metaphorical, and spiritual connections between self and shadow. Working across mediums such as etching, monotype, cyanotype, relief, lithography, and letterpress, the resulting works offer a compelling window into each artist’s inner world.
