Edinah Chagwedera

2000

Edinah Chagwedera is a Zimbabwean artist who was born in 2000 and currently lives in Cape Town. In 2023, she completed her diploma at Ruth Prowse School of Art. Her work involves a combination of paintings and sculpture. In 2024, Edinah exhibited in a group show at Marvol Gallery, participated in the emerging artist program, and took part in the emerging artist group exhibition in October 2024.

Her work focuses on the Mental health of Black Struggles of Black youth, using painting and sculpture as mediums to confront the emotional challenges they face. In her sculptural pieces, she uses air drying clay to create figures dressed in fashionable clothing, juxtaposing external appearances with inner turmoil. Each figure holds red balloons that obscures their faces, symbolising the unseen burdens and stigma often carried in silence.
