Bubu Ogisi

Bubu Ogisi is a Nigerian fiber artist, multidisciplinary designer, and the Creative Director of the contemporary art and fashion brand IAMISIGO. Renowned for her avant-garde installations, wearable art, and experimental textiles, Ogisi’s practice challenges Western perceptions of African identity while centering themes of decolonization, spirituality, memory, and materiality. Her work straddles the worlds of contemporary art and fashion, often blurring the lines between sculpture, performance, and design.

As a contemporary artist, Ogisi creates immersive installations and performances that explore the body’s relationship to space and time, often incorporating hand-woven textiles, natural fibers, found objects, and traditional techniques. Her fiber-based works are deeply research-driven and rooted in African spiritual systems, ecological knowledge, and the power of ritual. Through this, she constructs new, embodied ways of seeing and experiencing African heritage beyond stereotypical or commodified narratives.

Ogisi’s commitment to decolonizing the mind and restoring indigenous knowledge systems is central to both her art and design work. She draws on ancestral craft practices and sacred technologies, using natural and locally sourced materials to produce ecologically conscious and symbolically potent works. Her art often takes the form of large-scale installations, performative rituals, and wearable sculptures, offering audiences a sensorial and introspective experience.

Educated in Computer Science and Fashion Business at ESMOD Paris, Ogisi merges conceptual rigor with technical innovation. Her background enables her to approach fiber art as a hybrid language—one that speaks equally to systems of technology, craft, and spiritual continuity. Her work has been exhibited in art institutions, galleries, and biennials across Africa and internationally, gaining recognition for its bold, tactile, and thought-provoking narratives.

As the founder of IAMISIGO, a Lagos, Nairobi and Accra-based brand, Ogisi continues to push the boundaries of fashion as art. IAMISIGO is celebrated for its hand-crafted, materially rich collections that incorporate traditional African techniques into contemporary, conceptual designs. The brand serves not only as a platform for fashion but also as an extension of her art practice—centering African philosophies, storytelling, and experimental material processes.

Through both her art and her brand, Ogisi envisions a world where the magic of the hands is held in equal regard to digital technologies. Her long-term mission is to create a global language of African fiber art—rooted in spirit, sustainability, and ancestral knowledge—and to provide new frameworks for engaging with African art, identity, and craft in the 21st century.
